Jeanette has devoted her legal practice exclusively to family law for over 20 years, assisting clients with marriage dissolutions, child custody, parenting time (visitation) matters, paternity matters, adoptions, prenuptial agreements, and post decree issues. With twenty years of previous teaching experience, her area of special expertise in her practice is custody, and child focused issues.
A primary benefit of Jeanette's experience is the practical common-sense approach she takes to family related legal matters. Although she is a well- prepared and determined litigator when the situation demands it, she prefers to promote accord among family members and resolve issues early on, if possible. Her respect for and collaboration with all parties involved has led psychologists, accountants, clergy and attorneys throughout Minnesota to regularly refer clients to her.
Jeanette has an extensive appellate practice and holds an excellent record for success on appeals. She has been a member of the Collaborative Law Institute for 20 years, and is qualified both as a mediator and an arbitrator in Minnesota. She is the author of The Minnesota Divorce Revolution, a popular book that provides a plain English explanation of Minnesota divorce law and addresses numerous topics, including the complex issues of custody, child support, maintenance, and property valuations and divisions. Her book offers essential information for people seeking direction regarding family law matters. Regency Press published the first edition in 1988 and the second edition in 1995.
Jeanette is fluent in American Sign Language, and taught in the field of special education for fifteen years. She earned her law degree while teaching full time at St Louis Park High School in their program for the deaf and hearing impaired. Her first published book, Life after Deaf, describes the impact of the handicap of deafness on her family. Published in 1985 by the National Association for the Deaf, her book explores the psychosocial and educational aspects of deafness. This book has been widely used as required reading by universities offering degrees in special education. |
